System requirements

Tor Browser is based on Mozilla Firefox's ESR (Extended Support Release), which periodically updates to include critical security updates from Firefox's main version. Due to these updates, older operating systems may eventually become incompatibile with newer versions of software dependencies that are only available in more recent OS versions. Maintaining support for outdated systems would compromise the security of Tor Browser, as it would require disabling newer security features and mechanisms that are crucial for protecting users' online anonymity.

Note: Support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 will be discontinued after the release of Tor Browser 14, scheduled for the end of 2024. Users on these operating systems are strongly advised to upgrade to maintain access to the most recent updates and security features provided by Tor Browser.

Windows

Operating Systems (32-bit and 64-bit):

  • Windows 7

macOS

  • macOS 10.12 and later.

Linux

Tor Browser is supported on any modern Linux-based operating system. Please reach out if you encounter any issues while installing.

Android

  • Android 5.0 or newer.

Installation

For Windows

  1. টর ব্রাউজারের ডাউনলোড পেইজে যান।

  2. উইন্ডোজের জন্য .exe ফাইলটি ডাউনলোড করুন।

  3. (এটি করে নেওয়ার পরামর্শ দেওয়া হচ্ছে) ফাইলের স্বাক্ষরটি যাচাই করে নিন।

  4. ডাউনলোড শেষ হয়ে গেলে .exe ফাইলটিতে ডাবল ক্লিক করুন। ইনস্টলেশন উইজার্ডের প্রক্রিয়াটি শেষ করুন।

For macOS

  1. টর ব্রাউজারের ডাউনলোড পেইজে যান।

  2. macOS-এর .dmg ফাইলটি ডাউনলোড করুন।

  3. (এটি করে নেওয়ার পরামর্শ দেওয়া হচ্ছে) ফাইলের স্বাক্ষরটি যাচাই করে নিন।

  4. ডাউনলোড শেষ হয়ে গেলে .dmg ফাইলটিতে ডাবল ক্লিক করুন। ইনস্টলেশন উইজার্ডের প্রক্রিয়াটি শেষ করুন।

For GNU/Linux

  1. টর ব্রাউজারের ডাউনলোড পেইজে যান।

  2. GNU/Linux-এর .tar.xz ফাইলটি ডাউনলোড করুন।

  3. (এটি করে নেওয়ার পরামর্শ দেওয়া হচ্ছে) ফাইলের স্বাক্ষরটি যাচাই করে নিন।

  4. তারপর হয় গ্রাফিক্যাল নয়তো কমান্ড লাইনের পদ্ধতিটি অনুসরণ করুন:

গ্রাফিক্যাল পদ্ধতি

  • ডাউনলোড করা হয়ে গেলে কোনো আর্কাইভ ম্যানেজার দিয়ে ফাইলটি এক্সট্র্যাক্ট (extract) করুন।

  • আপনার GNU/Linux-টিতে আপনার শেল স্ক্রিপ্ট চালানোর (এক্সিকিউট করার) ক্ষমতা থাকতে হবে। এক্সট্র্যাক্ট করার ফলে এইমাত্র টর ব্রাউজারের যে ডিরেক্টরিটি তৈরি হল সেখানে যান। start-tor-browser.desktop ফাইলে রাইট ক্লিক করে তারপর "প্রোপার্টিজ" বা "প্রিফারেন্সেস" অপশনে গিয়ে ফাইলটিকে প্রোগ্রাম হিসাবে চালানোর (এক্সিকিউট করার) অনুমতি দিয়ে দিন। এবার আইকনটিতে ক্লিক করলে প্রথমবারের মতো টর ব্রাউজার চালু হবে।

লিনাক্সে .desktop ফাইলটিকে এক্সিকিউটেবল বানান

বিঃ দ্রঃ উবুন্টু ও অন্যান্য আরো কিছু ডিস্ট্রোতে start-tor-browser.desktop ফাইলটি চালাতে গেলে অনেকসময় টেক্সট ফাইল খুলে যেতে পারে। In that case, you will have to change the default behavior and allow running .desktop files as executables. This setting can usually be found in your file manager.

Command-line method

  • When the download is complete, extract the archive with the command tar -xf [TB archive].

  • From inside the Tor Browser directory, you can launch Tor Browser by running:

    ‪./start-tor-browser.desktop

    Note: If this command fails to run, you probably need to make the file executable. From within this directory run: chmod +x start-tor-browser.desktop

Some additional flags that can be used with start-tor-browser.desktop from the command-line:

Flag Description
‪--register-app To register Tor Browser as a desktop application.
‪--verbose To display Tor and Firefox output in the terminal.
‪--log [file] To record Tor and Firefox output in file (default: tor-browser.log).
‪--detach To detach from terminal and run Tor Browser in the background.
‪--unregister-app To unregister Tor Browser as a desktop application.
